Jessica Daryl Winer's work on canvas reflects her early love of watercolor and the technique she developed gives acrylic paint watercolor’s freedom and luminosity.

Winer's work can be found in museum and gallery exhibitions and large-scale public installations. Her painting of the Flatiron Building is in the permanent collection of the Museum of the City of New York. Other public collections include: the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, Eastman School of Music, American Ballet Theatre, Polk Museum of Art at Florida Southern College (Lakeland, FL), Midwest Museum of American Art (Elkhart, IN), Verdon/Fosse Legacy (New York, NY), and Golisano’s Children’s Museum of Naples, FL. Her paintings are in numerous private collections nationally and internationally.

Public installations/commissions include: Dance Space (mural, Manhattan Movement and Arts Center), Sardi's Screens (freestanding mural, Sardi’s), Curtain Call (27 foot acrylic on canvas mural, commissioned as centerpiece of the Times Square Visitors Center/Embassy Theatre) and featured nationally on PBS. Her public installation of suspended, kinetic constructions (set in motion by air currents), Dancing on Air…, was exhibited for two years in the Times Square Visitors Center and was viewed by an estimated two million people. Commissions also include posters and theatrical set design, including projected backdrop drawings. Her paintings of opera and jazz subjects have been reproduced by Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Metropolitan Opera, including a Met poster. Her work has appeared in the New Yorker, among other publications.

Her special project Dance Floor, a 6’ x 8’ floor canvas, traces in paint the dance steps of 28 dance world luminaries (from Merce Cunningham to the Radio City Rockettes)—a quest to render the invisible, visible—and is now held by the Capezio Foundation.

She was educated at Swarthmore College, with studies in Rome (Barbieri Center), and the National Academy in New York (where she studied with Will Barnet and was awarded the Nachamkin Prize in drawing). She is a graduate of the Rudolf Steiner School.

Says Winer, “Art reaches out to us for human connection across the centuries. My work is about the conversation around that connection. I take from the real world around me, and reimagine those elements into a rich, color-saturated, improvisational world of my own vision."
